Monoculture

In the Summer of 2017 in Chile, a fire devastated approximately five hundred thousand acres of pine plantations. This fire was a result of an imbalanced ecosystem where the native forest had been replaced by a monoculture crop, pine trees. The primary function of these crops are to produce cellulose pulp which is exported and used to create cardboard boxes.
